Joy Wu, Ph.D.

Joy Wu is a postdoctoral researcher at ISTO at LMU Munich since 2021. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Economics & Management from Cornell University in 2021. She received her BA in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2012. She has worked as an economic consultant for US telecommunications patent infringement cases, and a strategy consultant for firms in the consumer packaged goods industry.

Her research spans the area of users’ behavior in digital markets, information rights, and fairness beliefs. In her Ph.D., she worked on laboratory and online experiments on information valuation and exploitation within the context of data privacy and algorithm licensing. Currently, she is branching out and working on a variety of applied and theoretical topics, including platform strategy and start-up funding, platform governance and misinformation on social media, and individuals’ redistribution preferences.
